Steve Egginton A career journalist, I joined my local paper when I was 17 and went on to hold senior positions in various Bristol media. I was deputy news editor of the Western Daily Press, news editor of BBC Radio Bristol, producer of Points West and finally Head of News at ITV West before starting Mendip Times in 2005. I am a former director and regional chairman of the society of editors, former trustee of Quartet Community Foundation and former Master of Bristol charity the Guild of Guardians. I live with my wife Annie, a GP, near Chew Magna. Mark Adler The Mendips have felt like home ever since I moved here in the mid-1980s; the places and the people as welcoming as any I have ever met. Born and brought up in North West London, I began my career in journalism after leaving school in 1978, working on local newspapers and for Fleet Street news Agency, a news and features agency which served national newspapers and magazines and the foreign press. Turning my back on Fleet Street, I came eventually to Shepton Mallet. Local and regional newspapers in the area led to broadcasting and senior newsdesk roles with both the BBC and ITV, based in Bristol. And away from work? Spending time with my wife Nicky, a television documentary producer and director and our rather camera-shy dog Banff, playing the occasional game of golf, watching Bath Rugby and enjoying a drink at my local, the Poachers Pocket, sitting in the garden (which has cornered the market in spectacular sunsets) with friends.
